If you like your gardening with a little danger (and your dinner with a lot of flavour), this one’s for you. Chilli ‘Habanero Mixed’ is described as super hot, super delicious and super prolific, with a unique smoky flavour that makes it a go-to variety for hot sauce making.

For best results, plant it in a sunny, hot spot with free-draining, rich soil. Prep your bed by digging in compost and well-rotted animal manure about a fortnight before planting and give it a boost with a light application of lime. Then raise seedlings in individual cells and transplant once daytime temps are regularly above 20°C (these plants do not do frost).

Why you’ll love it

  • Hot sauce hero – smoky flavour + serious heat
  • Prolific producer – lots of chillies from one plant
  • Rich, free-draining soil; add compost + well-rotted manure 2 weeks before planting; benefits from lime
  • Sunny, hot position – exactly how chillies like it
  • How to plant – raise in cells, harden off (out by day, in at night), transplant when days stay above 20°C
  • Companion plants: basil, parsley
  • Approx. seed count: 60 (locally sourced in small batches for high viability)
  • Made in Australia
